Homers first couple of months was spent on the basic Sit, Stay , Here commands. During this time he also got LOTS of retrieves I worked with him daily for about 30 minutes a day. I would throw about 15 retrieves a session. I alwas ended the session with him “wanting more”. I did very little scolding or correcting as this time. It was a “Fun Game” designed to build his desire to retrieve. It worked very well because Homer now is a retrieving machine

I will make many references to three of THE most important training DVD’s I used for Homer. They are “WATER DOG , GAME DOG and TOP DOG by Richard A. Wolters. These DVD’s were the biases I used to train Homer. Without these DVD’s I would have been completely lost. Homer is a true testament to how good these DVD’s are. At just over a year old Homer, has passed both his Junior and Senior hunt tests, without me having to spend a dime on professional training.

I think the most important thing I did for Homer was give him that 30minutes a day. With consistent daily work, along with the DVD’s I feel ANY hunter can train a good bird dog. If you have trained a dog of your own please feel free to add a comment.
